Despite the rescue of driver Denel Laurito dos Santos and the confirmation that the device found in the truck was an imitation explosive, the incident that paralyzed Rodanel Mario Cobas in the early hours and mornings of this Wednesday (12th) still has an “unresolved outcome”. Civilian police and competent authorities are continuing to investigate to determine the motive and identity of the perpetrators and have not ruled out any investigation.

The case is under the responsibility of the Municipal General Investigation Department (SIG) of Taboan da Serra, which is currently investigating all the circumstances surrounding the occurrence. The victim and care worker were questioned yesterday and the truck was impounded. The vehicle was searched and fingerprinted. Investigators also seized three mobile phones, which will now undergo forensic examination.
The driver was taken to the hospital, treated and released. He took a breathalyzer test, which came back negative, and toxicology tests are ongoing.
Security camera footage is being collected to clarify and analyze the facts. At this time, the São Paulo Public Security Secretariat has not confirmed or ruled out any investigation policy. The police report was registered as attempted robbery.
Among the information that has not been officially confirmed, there is a version that the criminals intended to use Sitrex Transportes trucks to transport weapons to Rio de Janeiro. According to O GLOBO, this information will be investigated, but so far there are no concrete elements to support this theory.
This version contrasts with information from the company that owns the truck, which said the truck returned empty to Citrex’s headquarters in São Bernardo do Campo. Citrex also reported that the drivers properly complied with all legal and safety procedures, including rest and travel times and appropriate speeds.

Information was collected through the vehicle’s electronic monitoring service. Electronic monitoring maintains full telemetry monitoring and real-time tracking of vehicle parameters.
“Information beyond what has been mentioned is yet to be officially confirmed in order for the competent authorities to carry out a proper investigation into the events that occurred,” Citrex said.
A police investigation will be critical to verifying the source of this information and determining whether the empty trailer was in fact the target.

Police search for truck robber
Three robbers are still on the run after the operation that resulted in Rodoanelle being stopped. Police are keeping the trio’s whereabouts a top priority and are looking for clues to help identify and arrest them.
The biggest mystery lies in the true motive of the crime. It appears that the truck itself, which returned empty, was targeted. If the purpose had previously been to carry cargo, the act would have been harmless. However, the possibility of using the vehicle to transport illegal materials such as weapons is being investigated.
There are also questions about the attack on the driver, who was tied up and left behind. Was it an act of gratuitous violence, or a way to coerce cooperation before being left behind?
The incident, which caused more than 600 kilometers of traffic jams in the capital Sao Paulo, began at around 5 a.m., when Denel was allegedly forced to stop his car on the road by the robbers, who claimed he was in possession of explosives. Police, who rescued the driver around 9:20 a.m., confirmed that the suspected bomb was actually an imitation made of aluminum foil and wire.
According to the São Paulo state transportation agency (Artesp), the driver was approached by three people and forced to move his vehicle to the other side of the road. The robbers then fled.
When approached by the dealership’s team, the driver refused to get out of the truck, claiming he was carrying a homemade bomb. The São Paulo Public Safety Secretariat (SSP) said military highway police were called in and a total lane closure was ordered as a precaution.
The rescue was carried out by the Military Police’s Special Tactical Action Group (GATE) with the help of drones. Denel lost consciousness after the action and was taken to Itapecerica da Serra General Hospital.
Security officials reported that the driver was feeling pain near his ribs and may have been attacked by the perpetrators. Shock police commander Valmor Lacorti reported that security forces were waiting for Denner’s recovery to find out what happened, as he was unresponsive. Only after the rescue, the GATE team confirmed the presence of a simulated explosive inside the vehicle and opened the area to traffic.
