On Thursday (13th), a truck crashed into an open-air market in Bucheon, South Korea, about 20 kilometers from Seoul, killing at least two people and injuring 18 others. According to local authorities, the car traveled at high speed for about 150 meters on a road lined with tents before coming to a stop.

The fire department said the truck backed up about 28 meters and accelerated into the crowd. Security camera footage broadcast by public broadcaster KBS shows the moment a blue car crashes into the food stall and pedestrians shopping there. Yonhap News confirmed that two people suffered cardiac arrest at the scene and died.
Driver insists on sudden acceleration
According to Yonhap News, the driver, a man in his 60s, was arrested and questioned. According to police, the man stated that the accident was caused by “sudden acceleration” and denied drinking alcohol. Tests conducted after the incident confirmed that he was not under the influence of alcohol. Officials will inspect the truck to determine if there was a mechanical failure.
Meanwhile, similar episodes have been recorded in Europe. In France, at least 10 people were injured when a man plowed his car into pedestrians on a tourist island on the west coast. The suspect, identified as Jean Guyot, 35, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after the attack in Oleron.
According to investigators, Guillot shouted “Allah Akbar” during the action, which initially led to suspicions of terrorism. However, French authorities say there is no evidence of links to extremist groups. This incident is still under investigation.
