Tarcisio criticizes the PT’s model of government, claiming Lula has “no capacity” to act against organized crime. policy

The governor, who has been cited as one of the right’s key figures to challenge Lula in 2026, said the PT government had “always offered nothing” to fight organized crime within the government. “What exactly did this group that has ruled Brazil for so many years do to turn the tables on us?” he asked, speaking about the security sector. “Are we going to announce it now? Of course not,” Tarcisio told reporters after the ceremony at São Paulo’s Palacio dos Bandeirantes. “And they are incapable of dealing with this and other problems. Look at Brazil’s financial situation.”

Tarcisio said the country could be in a better position, both economically and in the fight against violence. “And the big question is, what are they offering? Is it reasonable to have an interest rate of 15% like it is today? This is directly linked to fiscal discipline. And then you have a security situation and the people say, ‘I can’t take it anymore.’ And the group has been there for a long time and what have they been offering? It’s model exhaustion. Society is saying that’s not possible, there has to be another way,” he said when asked about the performance. Lula investigation in the Genial/Quaest investigation. “We have to see what Lula has to show Brazil,” the governor said.

Polls show Lula continues to lead in voting intentions in both rounds, but the gap between him and his opponent has narrowed. As for the possibility of a second round match with Tarcisio, Mr. Lula has a 41% chance, while the Sao Paulo governor has a 36% chance. The gap between the two teams has shrunk by more than half, from 12 points to 5 points, in just one month.

Asked about his performance in potential presidential race polls, Tarcisio deflected, saying, “I don’t think about that.”

The governor has the support of key Centron leaders to run for office in 2026. The political group’s leaders have resisted supporting members of the Bolsonaro family as presidential candidates.

Tarcisio’s political godfather, former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL), was disqualified until 2030 by a decision of the High Electoral Tribunal (TSE) and was found guilty of attempted coup d’état by the Federal Supreme Court (STF). Bolsonaro is expected to be arrested later this year.

Even though the governor has said he is focused on São Paulo, he has held a series of meetings with businessmen, investors and political leaders to discuss the national scenario and the 2026 presidential elections. Tarcisio has also been involved in negotiating proposals at the National Assembly. The Governor, through the Secretary and Deputy Secretary of National Security, made the following statement: Guilherme Delight (PP)approval of legal reforms to combat criminal factions.

Mr Delight took leave to report on the federal government’s anti-sectarian legislation. Since the rapporteur was announced on Friday night, the deputy rapporteur has already submitted four reports, leading to continued criticism for a lack of discussion in preparing the proposals. Delight is exhausted not only with the federal government, but also with the Bolsonaristas and some on the bullet bench.

Mr. Tarcisio spoke about the secretary’s role as rapporteur for the anti-factional PL and defended the postponement of the vote on the project, despite Mr. Delight’s insistence that it be voted on as soon as possible. “This is a complex issue that must be approached carefully and with the necessary calm to ensure we provide the best product for our state,” he said. “The delay is welcome because unless there is agreement, it is not fully structured, and unless the members of the Legislature are reassured, we cannot bring the document to the full floor of the Legislature,” the governor said.

Tarcisio also argued that the text should be negotiated with senators now to expedite the process.

Yesterday, right-wing governors defended a 30-day postponement of the vote, but Mr. Delight resisted the request and filed a fourth version of his report hours later. Amid criticism and pressure from members of parliament, the speaker of parliament Hugo Motta (Republican-PB)postponed the vote until next week.
