Federal Member of Parliament Marcel van Hattem (Novo-RS) berated Senator Soraya Tronike (Podemos-MS) during the INSS CPMI meeting this Thursday (13 November) after she exceeded her speaking time when speaking about the recent controversy over the lawyers of prisoners in the January 8 attack.
The discussion between Vice President Bolsonaro and government senators took place during the hearing of Eric Fidelis, a lawyer and the son of Andre Fidelis, the former director of welfare at the National Institute of Social Security (INSS), who was earlier arrested by federal police.

- The INSS scandal was revealed by Metropol in a series of reports published from December 2023 onwards.
- Three months later, the portal showed that revenues from associations offering discounts on retirees’ monthly bills had soared, reaching R$2 billion in a year, while the association fielded thousands of lawsuits regarding irregularities in membership of policyholders.
- The metropolitan report triggered an investigation by the Federal Police (PF) and informed an investigation by the Federal Inspector General (CGU).
- A total of 38 articles on the portal were listed by the PF in a statement that triggered “Operation No Discount”, which was launched on April 23 this year and led to the dismissal of INSS Chairman and then Social Security Minister Carlos Lupi.
CPMI President Carlos Viana (Podemos MG) repeatedly asked the senators to finish their speeches. To which Slonike responded, “Wow, I’ve seen so many people have so much time on their hands.” This speech was followed by a complaint from Mr van Hattem. “Calm down, calm down,” Soraya answered.
“Is she going to stay here to defend the bad guys or to investigate? She’s defending the bad guys, so we want to investigate,” Van Hattem shouted. Slonike responded, “I’m defending the patriots.” Ms. Viana tried to interrupt the argument by saying that this was not the subject of discussion and asked for the session to continue.
