Jakarta (ANTARA) – Cockroaches are unwanted guests whose presence always makes the occupants of the house uncomfortable. Surprisingly, they often appear without permission, especially in humid areas like kitchens and bathrooms.
Many people want to get rid of them immediately if cockroaches enter their home. Because this insect is not only disgusting, but is also known as a carrier of various disease-causing germs and bacteria.
There are various types of cockroach control products that we can use. However, the chemicals it contains can be dangerous to human or pet health.
So, through this article, ANTARA will review various effective natural ingredients to eliminate cockroaches without the risk of dangerous side effects.
1. Garlic
Like vampires in fiction, cockroaches can’t stand the strong aroma of garlic.
We can slice a few cloves of garlic and spread it in the areas frequented by cockroaches. Alternatively you can also sprinkle garlic powder to make everything more practical.
However, it should be noted that using garlic can leave a strong aroma in your home.
2. Mix borax and sugar
This combination can be an effective weapon in getting rid of cockroaches.
We just need to mix sugar and borax in a ratio of 3:1, then distribute this combination in the areas where cockroaches usually frequent.
Sugar acts as an attractant for small insects, while borax will damage the digestive system of cockroaches and eventually kill them.
3. Oil peppermint
For humans, perfume peppermint it can provide a feeling of calm and freshness. However, for cockroaches and other insects, this aroma is actually scary.
Mix a few drops of oil with enough water in a spray bottle. Then, spray the solution in areas where roaches often gather.
However, if we have a dog or cat, it is best to keep them away from the sprayed area, because if they are licked they can be potentially dangerous.
4. Bay leaf
Cockroaches appear to have a sensitive sense of smell. Because, again, cockroaches don’t like the smell of bay leaves.
The way to get rid of cockroaches with this spice is to simply crush bay leaves and sprinkle them in the corners of the room. Don’t forget to replace the bay leaves periodically so that the aroma remains strong.
5. Lemons
The anti-pathogenic substances contained in lemon have been shown to be effective in repelling cockroaches and preventing the growth of bacteria and germs.
To make cockroaches reluctant to return, we can spray a mixture of water and lemon juice in the areas where these insects often gather, or use the solution to clean the house.
6. Red lemongrass
Who would have thought, it turns out that there are different types of lemongrass. In Indonesia itself there are two of the most common, namely cooking lemongrass and red lemongrass.
Lemongrass is usually used as a spice to add aroma and flavor to dishes. Meanwhile, red citronella which contains citronella oil is helpful in repelling insects, including cockroaches.
How to use it is easy. Boil the lemongrass down to the base, then let the boiled water cool. Then, pour it into a spray bottle and apply it to areas of your home where roaches often hang out.
The scent of citronella will discourage cockroaches from approaching.
Besides the six natural ingredients mentioned above, the most important thing not to forget is to keep your home clean. Because, in addition to creating a healthier and more comfortable environment, a clean and tidy home will make cockroaches reluctant to visit it.
