A São Paulo court has rejected Gil Lugai’s request to waive the use of his electronic ankle bracelet. He has been free since August 2024 after being imprisoned in Tremembe Prison, known as the “prison of celebrities”, after being found guilty of shooting his father and stepmother to death.
In a ruling last Wednesday (12/11), judge Gabriela Marquez da Silva Bertoli said that Gil Lugay’s defense had not presented any factors that would justify discontinuing the use of the ankle bracelet.
“We note that the nature of the acts committed, and primarily the amount of the fine, are prudent given the existence of a concrete risk of non-compliance with the imposed conditions,” he said.

The judge also reinforced the prosecutor’s office’s opinion based on a psychological report of Lugai, who was described as a person “characterized by immature emotional expression, untimely mood swings, emotional instability, and low tolerance for frustration.” Therefore, reintegration must be accompanied by ongoing support to ensure that they are able to apply their skills in different situations.
