According to witnesses, Costa was slapped in the face. The motive for the attack has not yet been revealed. This episode was revealed by CBN Radio.
Witnesses claim that the attack may have been triggered by a recent post by a journalist showing the mayor, a supporter of former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL), having a “relaxed conversation” with Guilherme Boulos, minister of the Presidential Special Secretariat. Mr Goiano also allegedly verbally berated two radio producers before punching Mr Costa.
According to the reporter, after posting this, the Paraauapebas City Hall Press Room confirmed that the mayor had participated in an interview at the COP30 venue. However, upon arriving at the appointed place, Costa is attacked by Goiano.
— The day after (the post), his advisor asked me for an interview. Of course I accept. He was supposed to be here, but when he arrived he realized that I would be the one to do it. The mayor then said he would not do the interview and got into an argument with the two producers. After my live broadcast ended, he came to the studio again and berated me. I went up to him to listen to him, but he slapped me. Let’s see what the UN decides – Costa said after the attack.
After the slap, journalists at the scene alerted the security team, who took the mayor to a private area. Costa was treated at a hospital set up in a blue zone, where authorities will discuss matters at COP30. He said he is doing well and plans to report it to the police.
The COP30 organization decided to suspend the mayor’s qualifications. When contacted, he would not talk.
