Six European qualifying matches were played on Friday (11/14). Highlights include a draw with Croatia, which secured their place in the 2026 World Cup, and Poland, whose World Cup qualification was postponed for the Netherlands.
Furthermore, Germany maintained their lead in the group with an away win, while Malta achieved their first win of the tournament.
At the HNK Rijeka Stadium in Rijeka, Croatia defeated the Faroe Islands 3-1 to qualify for the World Cup. This is because the Croatian team reached 19 points, six points ahead of the second-place Czech Republic in Group L, with one game left until the end of the tournament.
The Netherlands failed to qualify for the World Cup. Ronald Koeman’s team drew 1-1 with Poland at the National Stadium in Warsaw. If they had won, they would have widened the gap by six points and would have been unable to catch up any further.
Germany defeated Luxembourg 2-0 away to maintain first place in Group A. In the final round, Germany will face Slovakia, who are tied for second place with 12 points.
