The University Council (Consuni) of the University of Brasilia (UnB) approved this Thursday (14 November) the creation of a Bachelor’s degree in Artificial Intelligence. This is the university’s first course dedicated to this field. The announcement was made by Dean Rosana Knaves, who classified the decision as a “historic step” for the university.
According to the dean, this new course is the result of a collective effort, in conjunction with UnB’s recent efforts to expand its activities in research, technology and innovation.
“This approval celebrates all the work we’ve done in recent months, from our new multi-user supercomputing laboratory to strategic partnerships that strengthen our ability to train professionals for the future,” he said.

After internal approval, the proposal will be sent to the Ministry of Education (MEC). This is a necessary step for final approval and inclusion in the course catalog. Senior administration members say they expect the process to move quickly as the project aligns with the country’s technological needs.
According to the dean, the creation of the bachelor’s degree in artificial intelligence is a milestone for UnB, which seeks to establish itself as a national standard in the training of professionals in this field. “We remain steadfast in our mission to prepare the university for modern challenges and the opportunities that AI brings to Brazil,” Rosana stressed.
