Rio de Janeiro Governor Claudio Castro (PL) announced this Friday (14th) a 36% adjustment to the RAS (Additional Service System), the main mechanism for paying military police for additional service. This amendment is the first since 2019 and applies to working hours from December onwards.
According to data from the Castro government, the RAS is used to provide extra security during holidays and mobilizes about 5,300 personnel each day.
Under the new table, senior officers will receive R$1,512.14 for an additional 24 hours of work, while corporals and soldiers will receive R$766.11 for the same period. Values for 6, 8, and 12 hour shifts have also been updated.
This legislation changes the internal structure of the RAS and creates specific categories for sergeants and warrant officers, becoming part of the intermediate range between captains and lieutenants, corporals and soldiers. The program now operates at four levels. captain and lieutenant. Sergeant and Warrant Officer. And the corporal and the soldiers.
The rules also include 24-hour working hours, which did not exist before, and will only apply in exceptional circumstances and with the permission of the company’s general headquarters.
In addition to the RAS adjustments, the government announced on Monday (10th) an increase in food aid, which had been frozen since 2004. As of the December salary, the amount increased by 166% from R$162.60 to R$433.80.
The benefit is aimed at police officers assigned to units without ranches, the so-called Desaranchados, a group of about 14,000 PMs, including non-commissioned officers and officers.
The measures were announced days after an operation in northern Rio that left 121 people dead, including four police officers, including two prime ministers.
