This Friday afternoon (14th), the attention of skateboarding enthusiasts in Rio turned to Raissa Real, who took over the street rink of Plaza do O in Barra da Tijuca and began her participation in Pro Tour STU Rio. A phenomenon in the sport, the 17-year-old skateboarder performed an amazing lap and received warm applause from the event’s most crowded audience to date. Leissa scored 77.15 points, placing second in the general category and advancing to the semifinals. The athlete said that he feels comfortable in the championship.

– Feels like you’re skateboarding in your backyard. I have been coming to Rio to compete since 2017. I know all the shortcuts on the track, it’s really cool – said Raissa

Fadinha had a perfect first lap, performing complex maneuvers such as a frontside flip and a backside 50/50. She came back even bolder on the final lap, which began with a backside lip slide (an action in which an athlete jumps off the railing of the track’s highest step on a skateboard). Raissa completed the course with the same maneuver, but this time she fell at the end of the run, but the success of her performance remained intact. It was on this lap that the Maranhão native recorded her highest score.

Sixteen athletes competed in the first stage of the women’s street, divided into four heats. Each skater is entitled to two one-minute laps, and only the best skaters are eligible for general classification. The top three from each group advanced to the semifinals.

From her entrance to each hit of the track, Rayssa received applause from the audience. This player, who lived up to expectations admirably, was the one most expected of today by the nation. Julia Rodriguez, an 18-year-old advertising student, was happy to see skateboarders up close.

– When she steps into the truck, it seems to be something else. I saw everyone was so excited because it was Leissa, right? The young woman said that everyone was waiting for the moment when she would arrive at the truck.

Julia has been attending STU Rio for three years and is skating as an amateur. She considers Leissa an inspiration for the evolution of the sport.

– I started skateboarding during the pandemic. I skateboard as much as I can. I myself want to continue to walk and evolve, inspired by Leissa.

Fadinha was the star of the day, but Australia’s Chloe Covell took the top spot in the overall standings. At 15 years old, she is also one of the young talents in world skateboarding, winning five Street League skateboarding titles and competing in the Olympics. Chloe set a good lap and scored 84.92 points.

Another Brazilian athlete expected this Friday afternoon was two-time world champion and Olympian Pamela Rosa. This athlete advanced to the semifinals, but finished last in the group with a score of 46.69.
