After conquering the stage, the hearts of fans and the charts, Shakira is now stepping into the world of beauty, especially in the field of hair care. Her new project ‘isima’ was born out of a very personal story. It’s the intimate relationship she’s always had with her hair and her desire to provide real solutions to those who, like her, are looking for solutions to the complexities of their style.
– Can you say that this project was born out of personal needs?
I started my career very young and a big part of my identity has always been my hair. As I got older, I began to demand more from myself. I have struggled with waves and curls for a long time. I have several types of curls, and my hair is constantly being dyed and exposed to heat, which further complicates the damage. I have tried all the products in the world, but there was no perfect product that could cover all my needs.
– Are there any rituals passed down from your family that are now reflected in your products?
I was inspired by my family, fans, and community. We tested each product throughout the process, working on different versions until we arrived at the final formulation. We are friends, teams, family, professionals, experts, Latinos, non-Latinos, women, men… all participated in the perfect creation of these official with their comments. We were dedicated to providing real solutions to real people.
– Shakira the businesswoman, Shakira the artist, Shakira the mother… Currently, Shakira is the founder of a beauty brand. How will he get it all done?
New projects always come with challenges. It’s natural. I am fortunate to be surrounded by a team of some of the brightest scientific thinkers. I love exploring new frontiers and breaking boundaries. I find it exciting to constantly learn and grow. My community has welcomed me with open arms in this new role, and I’m very excited to see that reception. Of course, there’s a lot to deal with. I’m a mother, a daughter, an artist, a creator, and now, like you said, the founder of a beauty brand. But being surrounded by the best team is key to success, so I’m forever grateful for their help in making each of my visions a reality.
-If your hair care product repertoire had a song as the soundtrack, what would it be and why?
My curls don’t lie! (My curls don’t lie). I love to reflect my career as an artist in a fun way. I love the connection that “Hips Don’t Lie” has with fans. It was so fun to see the witty comments on social media. I hope you all like it as much as I do. “Superbomba” was definitely a radical change for me in terms of hair health, but “Curls Don’t Lie” is so tied to my identity and how I see the world as an artist.
-There are a lot of choices in the beauty market. What makes your line special and unique, including your voice and style?
To me, ‘isima’ represents true innovation with clinically proven results for underserved communities. Modern hair care brands need to take the time to truly understand the intricacies of hair and what people need. That’s why we chose the superlative “isima” for our brand name because we want to inspire people to expect even more. It’s about the feeling of being heard in your daily struggle with your hair and the confidence it gives you when it looks great. It may seem like a small thing, but the feeling of being recognized by an industry that has long ignored women with complex hair like me was very important to me. Many people relate to the idea that hair is closely connected to identity.
– Your fans usually copy your hairstyles, curls, looks… Is this project also a gift for them?
of course! They are at the heart of everything I do, so I look forward to listening to them and continuing to strive to give them exactly what they want.
