House of Commons Minister Rui Costa celebrated the reduction in trade tariffs imposed by the United States on agricultural products. The minister labeled the act a “victory for Brazil” in a social media post on Friday night (November 14).
“The United States has announced the removal of tariffs on several Brazilian products. This is a decision that strengthens our strength on the international stage,” the minister said.
Rui Costa highlighted the efforts of the Brazilian government, led by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, to reverse the “tariff”. The executive order signed by Donald Trump only reduces the 10% surcharge on products such as coffee, beef, bananas and acai.
“This achievement is the result of the decisive strategic actions of the @LulaOfficial Presidential Government, which continues to defend Brazil’s sovereignty and interests at all negotiation fora,” he said.

But even with the reduction, Brazil remains one of the countries most affected by the Republican levy. The executive order signed by President Trump and released by the White House only reduces the 10% reciprocal tariff imposed by President Trump on April 2 of this year. However, the 40% additional rate officially decided at the end of July remains in effect.
As a result, 73.8% of Brazil’s exports to the United States will remain subject to additional tariffs, according to a technical note from the Confederation of National Industries (CNI). By the time reviews were published this Friday, that percentage had reached 77.8%, covering 6,037 products.
The move was announced by the White House a day after Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira met with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
The meeting came amid negotiations to reduce the 50% tariffs imposed by the Trump administration on Brazilian products. As he left the discussion, the Brazilian prime minister said Brazil had presented a “general proposal” to address tariffs.
