To date, there is no record of anyone agreeing to act as a defense witness for Ana Paula Veloso Fernández or Roberta Cristina Veloso Fernández. Legal sources who followed the process said that although the defendants’ lawyers investigated profiles close to the women, no volunteers came forward to testify favorably.
As the report revealed, even Ana Paula Veloso Fernández’s ex-husband refused to testify in her defense or sign a contract to testify in her favor.
Investigators say this voluntary silence or recantation could worsen the situation for defendants, as the prosecution report relies heavily on documentary, digital and expert evidence. The absence of defense witnesses undermines the strategy of challenging the body of evidence.

Poisoning: Police exhume body of serial killer boyfriend
Victims and behavioral patterns
The investigation said the sisters’ deaths followed a pattern, with the victims approached through friendships, relationships through apps, the administration of a toxin similar to a rat poison called chumbingho in food and drinks, and subsequent financial or family benefits.
The four victims are: Marcelo Hari Fonseca, whose body was found in Guarulhos in January; María Aparecida Rodríguez died in April in the same municipality. Neil Correa da Silva, who was killed on April 26 in Duque de Caxias (RJ) after allegedly poisoning feijoada, and Hayder Mazures, who was killed in the capital of São Paulo in May after Ana Paula Veloso Fernández faked a pregnancy to gain the victim’s trust after a meeting via an app.
In the process, Roberta Cristina Veloso Fernández appeared as a “consultant” or “operative”, set the minimum amount for murder at approximately 4,000 reais, recommended payment in cash to avoid financial traces, and cut off digital communications. Ana Paula will now appear as the main culprit in the poisoning.
“The penny dropped.”
Lawyer Almir da Silva Sobral said: big cityThursday (11/13) I had a video conference with Anna after her transfer. “She was scared and just by looking at her face I knew a penny had dropped.”
Defense attorney Anna said, “He did not know what he had done,” and emphasized that his client had “not confessed” to the murder. “She just told how it happened.”
