The explosion was intense and felt in the federal capital/web.
Last night, a fire (accompanied by several explosions, one of which was equivalent to the impact of an air raid and a bomb) broke out in the industrial area of Carlos Spegazzini, a few meters from the Ezeiza-Canuelas highway. Several firefighters, members of the Buenos Aires Police Department, civil defense personnel and emergency medical personnel are working at the scene. To date, the potential victims and extent of injuries are unknown, apart from property damage caused. Unofficial figures said at least 20 people were injured in varying degrees. Losses run into the millions.
The shock waves were so strong that they broke the windows of homes several kilometers from the epicenter.
According to preliminary information, the incident began after an accident inside the factory, apparently related to pesticides, which forced numerous workers to evacuate the premises and caused the blaze to spread out of control.
Neighbors reported that after the first very strong explosion, other less intense explosions continued to be heard from the same sector around 9:30 p.m.
This situation caused high levels of tension in the region. Once emergency teams arrived, a major operation began, including closing roads, diverting traffic and expanding security perimeters.
The whole family left the house, not knowing what had happened or if they were safe nearby. Some residents described the situation as “confusion and anxiety” as police cars and ambulances continued to arrive at the affected area.
Additionally, authorities are assessing the environmental risks that may result from the explosion.
Several companies that handle chemicals and flammable materials operate within the complex, raising concerns that toxic substances could eventually be released.
Expert engineers analyzed the air in the area and could not rule out the possibility that the fire could have affected a warehouse storing dangerous products, making the situation even worse.
Firefighters from various barracks continued to arrive in the area in time for reporters, and police shut down the highway to traffic as a precaution.
