Jakarta (ANTARA) – International ranking agency Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) released the annual list of QS Asia University Rankings (AUR) 2026 on Tuesday (11/4) via its official website.
This year, as many as 1,530 universities from various regions of Asia, from East Asia, South Asia, Southeast Asia to Central Asia, were included in the evaluation.
The QS AUR ranking, published since 2009, aims to provide an overview of the performance of universities in the Asian region.
The evaluation methodology includes a series of indicators, including research activity, student learning experience, quality of teachers, international partnerships and reputation in the world of work.
Of the thousands of universities evaluated, 93 Indonesian universities made the list. Eight of these are State Universities (PTNs) which recorded the best position in Asia according to QS AUR 2026. Below is the complete list.
1. University of Indonesia (UI)
Occupying the first position among Indonesian state campuses, Universitas Indonesia (UI) achieved an overall score of 81.3 and was ranked 47th in Asia.
IU excels in indicators of academic reputation (99.1) and employer reputation (99.8). This position makes UI a university with high competitiveness in the world of work.
In addition to this, UI also recorded a perfect score on incoming and outgoing student exchange, i.e. 100, as well as an average score of 85.62 on the global engagement indicator.
2. University of Airlangga (Unair)
Ranked as the second best Indonesian state campus, Airlangga University (Unair) Surabaya recorded a score of 79.5 and was ranked 54th in Asia.
Unair stands out in employer reputation with a score of 99.7, which is just 0.1 points behind UI.
Then, it has a strong position in the areas of academic reputation with a score of 95, international research networks with a score of 91.4, and outgoing student exchanges (95) and incoming learning exchanges (98.5).
3. Gadjah Mada University (UGM)
With a slight difference with Unair, Gadjah Mada University (UGM) in Yogyakarta ranks 55th with a score of 79.4.
UGM maintains its image as one of the leading research campuses in Indonesia, with an academic reputation of 99 and an employer reputation of 99.5.
The campus is also active in international student exchange programs, with high scores for incoming (98.8) and outgoing student exchange (91.3).
4. Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB)
Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) recorded an overall score of 78.2, ranking 62nd in Asia.
This campus excels in research publications, with an article count per faculty of 31.5, the highest among other Indonesian universities.
ITB also has doctoral teaching staff with a score of 92.4 and an employer reputation of 99.5, on par with UGM.
5. Bogor Agricultural Institute (IPB University)
This is followed by Bogor Agricultural Institute (IPB University), which ranks 82nd in Asia with a total score of 71.9.
IPB excels in the faculty/student ratio indicator with a score of 98.6, as well as in staff with doctoral degrees with a score of 80.2.
In terms of academic reputation, IPB scored 82.9, while employer reputation reached 92.8.
6. Padjadjaran University (Unpad)
Based in Bandung, Padjadjaran University (Unpad) is ranked 96th in Asia with a score of 68.3.
Unpad shows good performance in terms of teacher/student ratio (91.4) and international research network (74.5). In terms of employer reputation indicators, Unpad scored 90.7 while academic reputation scored 78.9.
7. Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS)
The Surabaya-based campus, Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) is ranked 97th in Asia with an overall score of 68.2.
The ITS shows superior performance in international student exchange, with a score of 99.8 for incoming student exchange and a score of 92.8 for outgoing student exchange.
Furthermore, employer reputation reached a score of 94.4 and academic reputation reached a score of 75.8.
8. Diponegoro University (Undip)
Diponegoro University (Undip) Semarang was ranked 106th in Asia with a total score of 66.9.
Undip excels in international research networks (78.5) and in employer reputation (91.5).
Subsequently, Undip also developed an international student mobility program with high scores for outgoing exchange (84.3) and incoming exchange (80.8).
QS AUR 2026 evaluation indicators
The QS Asia University Rankings 2026 has been compiled to provide a comprehensive picture of university performance in various aspects. The evaluation is based on four main categories:
- Research and Discovery (45%): Includes academic reputation, citations per article, and number of articles by faculty.
- Employability and results (20%): includes the reputation of the employer.
- Global Engagement (20%): Includes international research networks, international faculty ratio, international student ratio, incoming exchange student ratio, and outgoing exchange student ratio.
- Learning experience (15%): Includes faculty to student ratio and number of staff with doctoral (PhD) degrees.
