Swedish police said on Saturday (November 15, 2025) that they support the theory of an accident after three people were killed after being hit by a bus in the capital Stockholm. “According to the documents we have analyzed so far, including testimonies and photographs, there is nothing to suggest that the incident was intentional,” police spokeswoman Ola Osterling told AFP.
It was just after 3pm on Friday. (CET), a double-decker bus plowed into a group of people waiting at a stop on a busy thoroughfare next to the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in the heart of the Swedish capital. The bus driver was arrested and an investigation has been launched on suspicion of manslaughter. He is currently hospitalized, Estelling said.
According to Swedish media, the man, who has not been identified, was trying to take a break after work. “I saw the bus going at a lot of speed. It flipped over the stop and the glass exploded,” Linda Contreras Elfforth, a witness to the incident, told Expressen newspaper. “The bus did not apply its brakes and collided with a tree and a utility pole before coming to a stop,” it added.
3 people dead, 3 injured
According to police, three people were killed and three others were injured. Their identities have not been disclosed and are not expected to be made public in the coming days, Osterling added. The bus was not in service at the time and there were no passengers on board.
Other media outlets, including public television SVT and Digital Express, said that a murder investigation had already been launched yesterday, citing possible health problems on the part of the driver, but that police do not believe it was terrorism. Attacks have been used as a means of attack for terrorist purposes, as in recent cases in France and last year in cases on trial in Magdeburg, Germany.
