The civil police of Osorio, in cooperation with the Special Agency for Animal Protection (DEPA) and the city’s kennel, carried out a series of inspections this Thursday (13th) aimed at combating the abuse of farm animals. This action took place in different parts of the city and was preventive and repressive in nature.

According to João Enrique Gómez de Almeida, head of the Osorio Police Department, the creation of the Animal-Friendly Registry has made it possible to increase the number of investigations and inspections. He said these visits were aimed at curbing abusive behavior and ensuring a suitable environment for animals in the municipality. During the surgery, the team received technical support from DEPA/Canil veterinarians.

During one of the inspections, investigators located where two dogs were found in a weakened condition and were eventually collected for treatment at the city’s animal care department. According to current legislation, if a deliberate act by a guardian is proven, the person responsible can be prosecuted for environmental crimes, as provided for in Law 9,605/98.

Civilian police reported new operations continued. The community can help by reporting via WhatsApp (51) 99912-0456.
