This Saturday morning, in the semi-finals of the ATP Finals in Turin, world No. 2 Italian Yannick Siner defeated Australian Alex de Minaur, No. 7 in the ATP rankings. The match was intense, especially in the first stage, but then Sinner took off, leaving the score at 2 sets 0 (7/5, 6/2) in 1 hour and 52 minutes. Sinner, the tournament’s current champion, continues to play the tournament without losing a set or having his serve broken. Sinner awaits his rival in a decision that will take place this Sunday. This game will be their last of the season.

The Italian has won all 13 matches against the Australian, including four this season at the Australian Open, Beijing, Vienna and now Turin. The Australian won only two sets in this duel.

Sinner now has 30 consecutive wins on both hard and indoor courts, making him the fifth-longest undefeated record in the Open Era in these conditions. The record was set by John McEnroe with 47 between 1978 and 1987, followed by Novak Djokovic with 35, Roger Federer with 33 and Ivan Lendl with 32. The Italian’s undefeated streak began at the 2023 Davis Cup.

The second semi-final will take place this Saturday at approximately 4:30pm between ATP ranking leader Carlos Alcaraz and world No. 8 Canadian Felix Aliassime. In Brazil, it will be broadcast on ESPN and Disney+ streaming exclusively for premium subscribers.

It will be the eighth time the two have met, with the Canadian winning the first three matches from 2021 to 2022 and the Spaniard winning the last four matches from 2023 to last year.

Sinner has just five wins in 15 games against Alcaraz and leads the record against Aliasime with four wins and two losses.

This morning’s match between Sinner and De Minaur was a very competitive first set with lots of ball exchanges and speed. The Italian fans were so contained for almost an hour. The only really exciting moment was the first break of serve by home tennis player Sinner, who made it 6-5 after eight break points. Sinner served next, opening 7-5 at 1:06 in the first half and calmly closing out the final game (40-15).

In the second set, Sinner quickly broke the Australian’s serve and took a 2-0 lead. Looking for an even bigger lead, he overcame a 15-40 point disadvantage in the match and made another break to reach 3-0. By that point, the atmosphere had already changed for the audience and it became even more festive. Sinner maintained his speed, maintained a high level, and pushed forward aggressively throughout the set. De Minaur managed to serve well (4-1 and 5-2) and avoid the tires in the set. However, Sinner, who boasts a first serve success rate of 75%, finished the match 0-0 in the second stage with two sets at 6/2.

Sinner will be making his 10th final of the season, having won titles at the Australian Open, Wimbledon, Beijing, Vienna and the Paris Masters 1000, in addition to runner-up finishes at Rome, Roland Garros, Cincinnati and the US Open. The 24-year-old, a 23-time ATP tournament winner, will reach the final for the 33rd time in his career.
