Sinner defeats De Minaur and aims for double by advancing to ATP Finals for third consecutive year

The superiority of the serve was decisive.

The first set was played point by point. Sinner had a chance to break the Australian’s serve in the first game, but wasted two break points. De Minaur rallied to take a 40-0 lead in the second game, but the Italian rallied, saving three break points and clinching serve.

Since then, Sinner dominated on serve (his first serve accuracy ranged from 78% to 54%) and played aggressively, creating eight break chances in the seventh, ninth, and 11th games. On this last attempt, de Minaur was unable to avoid a break, and the world No. 2 took the lead on the scoreboard for the first time at 6/5, finishing serve at 7/5.

Tired and unfocused, de Minaur was unable to maintain his balance in the second set. The overwhelming Sinner weakened his opponent’s resistance with his powerful serve.

Unlike the previous round, the Italian won the rally and cornered the Australian in the first game, breaking his rival’s serve and opening up a comfortable 4-0 lead.

Even with the victory on track, Sinner maintained his intensity and cruised to victory, using his second match point to his advantage to seal a partial victory at 6/2, ending the match at two sets to zero and one win away from winning his second ATP Finals title.
