Fluminense presidential candidate Celso Barros passed away this Saturday (11/15) at the age of 74. The renowned physician was one of the key leaders of the UniMed project and was its influenza sponsor from 1999 to 2014. Mr. Celso suffered a heart attack the morning after attending the baptism.
Fluminense mourned the death of their fans and presidential candidate on social media, and officially declared mourning from that day. Check it out:

Fluminense Football Club would like to express its deep regret over the death of the great tricolor player Celso Barros. A very important figure in the club’s history, Celso played a leading role as Sponsor Chairman of the team, which won domestic titles such as the 2007 Copa do Brasil and the 2010 and 2012 Brazilian Championships, in addition to being runners-up in the 2008 Copa Libertadores.
The pediatrician, who was always in love, enthusiastically engaged in discussions about the fate of the club. He remained active in Fluminense’s political life and was at this point a presidential candidate for the next three years. At this moment of sadness, Fluminense sympathizes with his family, friends and the people of Tricolor who have admired him for many years. The club has officially commemorated his death, making the Salão Nobre de Laranjeiras available to his family for a wake and memorial.

Celso Barros, a keen Fluminense fan, was one of the candidates to lead Fluminense in the next election.
The sponsorship of the hospital contract strengthened the successful partnership with the club. During this period, Fluminense left Series C and won the Copa do Brasil title in 2007, in addition to the Brazilian Championship in 2010 and 2012.
