The film, which won Best First Documentary at the Critics’ Choice Documentary Awards on November 9, reflects on Jayne Mansfield’s influence on her family.
At the recent Cannes Film Festival, Mariska surprised the audience by revealing that former Mr. Universe Mickey Hargitay is not her biological father.
She explained that she discovered she was the daughter of Brazilian Nelson Sardelli at the age of 25, about 22 years after her mother Jayne died in a car accident.
Nelson Sardelli is an Italian-Brazilian musician. He is now 90 years old, married to a woman named Lorraine, and lives in Las Vegas. He has performed on cruise ships and at the Sydney Opera House and New York’s Carnegie Hall.
He served in the Army before getting a job as a singer and starting his career in the entertainment world. Sardelli appeared in films such as Myra Breckinridge (1970) and Fake Out (1982).
Sardelli also received the Golden Pillow Award from the International School of Entertainers in Las Vegas in 2008.
In 1962, Mariska’s mother Jane separated from Mickey Hargitay. She dated Nelson Sardelli from 1963 to 1964. Jane and Mickey reconciled in 1964, before Mariska was born. The actress and her biological father maintain a close relationship.
Nelson Sardelli has three other daughters. One of them died in 2001. Mariska Hargitay’s other two half-sisters appeared in the documentary My Mama Jane.
This is singer Nelson Sardelli. Sardelli, who was born in São Paulo, had a brief relationship with Mariska’s mother, actress Jayne Mansfield, from which Mariska was born.
