Godoy Cruz de Mendoza and San Martín de San Juan failed to score against Deportivo Riestra and Aldosivi respectively. On the final day of the Clausura tournament before the play-offs, both teams had unfavorable results and were relegated to Primera Nacional.
It wasn’t enough for Tonba
Godoy Cruz de Mendoza were relegated to the Primera Nacional this afternoon after a 1-1 draw at home against Deportivo Riestra in the 16th round of the Clausura Tournament of the Pro League. Deportivo Riestra’s goal was scored by forward Nicolas Venegas in the 19th minute of the first half, and just three minutes later Godoy Cruz equalized for winger Santino Andino.
The match started in the worst possible way for Godoy Cruz. Deportivo Riestra quickly took the lead as Venegas scored in the middle of the area after some good play with striker Alexander Diaz. Just a few minutes later, Godoy Cruz equalized with a goal from Andino. Andino fired a cross from a free kick that went past everyone in the area and into the goal in unusual fashion.
Despite a push from Godoy Cruz throughout the second half, it wasn’t enough for Tongba, who ended up drawing 1-1 and being relegated. In any case, a win would mean that Aldosivi would not be able to maintain their category, as they defeated San Martín de San Juan, the other remaining team in the Primera Nacional, 4-2.
Godoy Cruz, coached by Omar Assad, had a disastrous year in the standings, scoring just 29 points in 32 games and finishing second from bottom behind San Martin de San Juan. Deportivo Riestra, on the other hand, achieved the draw and are now 3rd in Zone B of the Clausura Tournament (possibly overtaken by Vélez this Sunday) and 5th in the standings for the year, meaning they will be playing in the Copa Sudamericana for the first time in the club’s history next year.
The black-green saint couldn’t do that.
In the 16th round of the Clausura tournament, San Martín de San Juan, who played as a visitor to Aldosibi, lost 4-2 and was relegated to the Primera Nacional, while the Mar del Plata team retained its category. The goals for the local team were scored by Santiago Moya, Franco Rami, Justo Gianni and Ayrton Preciado, while the goals for the San Juan team were scored by Santiago Varela and Tomás Fernández. This is my second heart attack.
The first half went into halftime with neither team scoring, but in the 18th minute of the second half, Barrera grabbed the first joy of the match for San Martín, giving them a victory that kept them in the category. However, everything started to get complicated for the Cujo team when Aldosibi instantly turned history around with goals from Moya and Rami.
43 minutes into the second half, Tomas Fernandes scored the equalizer from the penalty spot, and San Martin de San Juan were thrilled with the win. But it all came crashing down on the next play when Justo Gianni took advantage of the San Juan team’s childish defense to put the home team in the lead again.
In the end, Ecuador’s Ayrton Preciado scored a penalty, making it 4-2 for Aldosibi, who ultimately retained this category. San Martín, on the other hand, were relegated after a disastrous 2025 in which they finished bottom of the year’s standings with just 28 points.
