Flamengo did not perform well in the early stages of the match against Sport, but they bounced back and achieved a positive result with a 5-1 victory at the Arena Pernambuco. This Saturday (15th), the team was able to return to the top of the tournament with a victory in the postponed Round 12 match of Brasileilon. It also put pressure on Palmeiras in the title race.
Pernambuco’s opponents managed to maintain their advantage until Pablo opened the scoring in the first half and right-back Matheus Alexandre received a red card. Since then, Rubro-Negro has grown in the game, with striker Luis Araujo scoring the equalizer. Leo da Ilha do Retiro then sent off a second player, defender Ramon Menezes.
With two more players on the field, Rio’s advantage was inevitable. Moreover, Flamengo knew how to take advantage of it and turn the game around and win. Coach Filipe Luis complained about his team’s performance at the start of the match.
“We came in at a level well below our level, well below our rhythm. We seemed to be below the level required by the game. It was due to a number of circumstances. Our pressure did not work, but they were able to leave with some ease. Regarding the ball, the team was not very good, the circulation was slow, slow. We lost the ball until we conceded a goal, and we were attacked on the counter,” the coach said.
“After that, we started to accelerate more and have better circulation. Still, we made a lot of mistakes. We even managed to reach the Sport area with some ease, but we couldn’t take advantage of it. I think we were particularly good on the right side. With the red card, of course the game got better. You can see by the volume that the opponent will continue to suffer and we had to insist,” Filipe added.
Manager to defend Bruno Henrique
The coach took a stand last week following the acquittal of striker Bruno Henrique. Therefore, in addition to classifying this episode as a learning experience, the coach emphasized that he believes in the player’s innocence.
“As for Bruno, we cannot say that he was acquitted in the same way that he is said to have been accused. Let that be a lesson, because we often crucify people before they are finally judged and convicted,” Filipe argues.
Manager celebrates promising goal in Flamengo’s professional debut
The young striker Douglas made his debut in the main team of Lebro Negro and already scored his first goal, having an unforgettable night in his career. The commander emphasized the boy’s abilities and was pleased with this feat.
“I knew the level at which Douglas practiced during the week. He was my U17 player and I am very happy with his goal. He has talent and has a future,” Filipe concluded.
With this defeat, Flamengo now leads the Brazilian Championship with 71 points and awaits the result of this Saturday’s classic match between Palmeiras and Santos. The team’s next match is next Wednesday (19th) at 9:30 pm against Fla-Flu in the 34th round at MaracanĂ£.
