I thought Nano Banana was my perfect renovation partner, but then I took a closer look – df

Bathroom before and after pictures side by side

Nano Banana is an AI tool from Google Gemini that works to either generate images or edit pre-existing images. After releasing in August 2025, Nano Banana has taken the world by storm, leading to multiple social media trends utilising the AI tool.

The main thing that sets Nano Banana apart compared to alternative AI photo generation software like ChatGPT and Copilot, is the fact that you can generate approximately 100 images per day per user, which is significantly higher than the other options.

Other than just editing images for a prank for social media as has seemingly been the case with the majority of users, I wanted to actually put Nano Banana to the test and see how useful it would be.

My bathroom has needed renovating for a while now. It’s just a bit outdated and doesn’t suit my style. I prefer something light, airy, and breezy, but I really don’t know where to start. Of course I’ve pinned tonnes of inspiration photos on Pinterest, but it’s hard to envision what my actual bathroom would look like with these sorts of styles.

I asked Nano Banana to renovate my bathroom for me using the below prompt.

Renovate my bathroom, but do not move the toilet or window. I want it to feel bright and airy with some storage space and greenery.

I know that in my bathroom renovation process, I’m not going to be able to move the toilet or the window. The rest of the bathroom is pretty much fair game. So I was sure to include this in the prompt just so Nano Banana knew not to do this.

I uploaded two separate images of different angles of my bathroom alongside the prompt above. And despite clarifying not to move the window, Nano Banana decided to place a massive mirror in front of it.

No matter how many times I adjusted the prompt or asked Nano Banana again to not move the window, I was met with the same result. While it was able to register the smaller window as such, it seemingly couldn’t register the rest of the window and therefore thought it was part of the wall and replaced it with a mirror.

Outside of this window issue, it also felt like the “renovation” wasn’t up to scratch with what I was expecting. It practically kept my bathroom identical to what it already looks like and just recolored some of the existing features, like the flooring and the walls.

While I know that the flooring and walls are a major part of renovation, every other element of the bathroom remained exactly the same. This was slightly disappointing, but again, it kind of points towards the lack of creativity that can come from AI.

I know that if I had a more specific prompt to provide Nano Banana with, it could have done a better job. But the whole point of asking the AI to renovate my bathroom for me was because I wanted it to come up with the ideas for me.

Being met with the exact same bathroom in white rather than brown was just a major letdown for me. It didn’t move anything around. It didn’t even adjust the units which I’ve got. All it did is recolour everything. I even specified for greenery in the prompt and was met with just one plant.

The only real new addition here is a mirror in front of the window which I asked it not to replace. How disappointing.

While asking Nano Banana to renovate my bathroom for me was great for me to envision what my bathroom might look like in a different colour scheme, which seems great on the surface, it didn’t really meet my full expectations.

I think for the time being, I’ll stick to my Pinterest board and asking the professionals to come in and design my bathroom renovation for me.
