More than 56,000 people demonstrate to protect public health across Andalusia
More than 56,000 people demonstrated in eight Andalusian departments at the public health rally called by Marea Blanca and the trade unions UGT and CCOO. Under the slogan “To protect public health,” demonstrators chanted “Moreno, listen, the people are in the fight” and demanded the resignation of Andalusian President Juanma Moreno.
According to data provided by the Andalusian government delegation, the number of demonstrators in Andalusia’s eight provinces is approximately 56,700, according to estimates by the National Police. The city in Andalusia with the most registered protesters is Malaga with 20,000, followed by Granada with 11,000 in the capital and Motril with 1,500. Seville, over 12,000 people. Cordoba, over 4,000 people. Cádiz and Jaén each had 3,000 people. Huelva has 1,200 people and Almeria has 1,000.
Political leaders such as PSOE-A Deputy Secretary General María Márquez and Seville’s Adelante Andalucía spokesperson José Ignacio García also participated in the rally. Toni Valero, General Coordinator of IU Andalusia in Malaga and a member of parliament, also participated in the protests against the failure of breast cancer screening and the “privatization” of Andalusia’s healthcare system.
The manifesto calling for protests says Andalusia’s health care is experiencing a “grave crisis” characterized by “widespread and systematic deterioration”, which is reflected in “scandals such as the failure of early breast cancer detection programs, with serious consequences for many women”.
