Last Friday (7/11), a 29-year-old man was shot dead by military police after breaking through a police blockade in Pavna, Rio de Janeiro’s northern district. The victim was identified as Andrew Andrade of Amor Divino.

According to information from military police, the men were patrolling the area when three motorcyclists passed by and opened fire on the team. Shortly after, the car driven by Andrew failed to comply with commands to stop and proceeded towards a police encirclement, at which point one of the officers opened fire, hitting the driver.
The injured Andrew was rescued by police officers and taken to the Getulio Vargas Hospital in Peña, where he succumbed to his injuries. The body was sent to the Medical and Legal Institute (IML) in central Rio de Janeiro.
Andrew’s burial took place this Sunday (9/11) at the Ricardo de Albuquerque Cemetery in northern Rio de Janeiro.

“According to preliminary information, the man did not comply with commands to stop and was shot dead by military police. He was taken to the hospital by a team, where he died. An investigation into the facts is underway,” the memo said.
