Education Minister Camilo Santana (PT) announced this Sunday that students in Rio Bonito do Iguaçu (PR), which was affected by a strong tornado, will be able to take the National High School Examination (ENEM) in December.

— Reapplication is already defined. Just yesterday we called the governor and the secretary. And I mobilized the entire ministry to help rebuild Rio Bonito, the city that suffered the most damage. We did not have an application for that test. All reapplicants will be eligible on December 16 and 17, 2025, the minister said. He said the municipality had 198 students enrolled.

— In addition to participants from the State of Paraná, participants affected by logistical problems or affected by illnesses foreseen in the notification. Requests have a deadline of Nov. 17 to Nov. 21, Santana added.

The tornado killed at least six people Friday and left a trail of destruction across the region. Two state schools in the city were devastated by the cyclone. The state government of Paraná also reported in an official document that 437 people were injured, nine of them in critical condition. Civil Defense estimates that at least 10,000 people were affected. This Saturday morning, Paraná State Governor Racinho Jr. (PSD) declared a state of public disaster in the city.

“We are here to carry out a field survey of the affected infrastructure. Since about 90% of the city has been affected, I have declared a state of official disaster. This will allow us to accelerate assistance and free up resources. We have already determined that Cojapar (Housing Company of the State of Paraná) is studying strategies for housing reconstruction and we are preparing accommodation facilities to guarantee support to families,” Racinho Junior informed.

The Federal Government this Sunday announced the 2025 National Senior Secondary School Examination (ENEM) first day balance. The abstention rate was 27%, the same as the previous three editions (26.6% in 2024, 28.1% in 2023, and 28.3% in 2022). The data was announced at a press conference by Education Minister Camilo Santana and Manuel Palacios, director of the National Institute of Educational Research Anísio Teixeira (Inep).

— The absentee rate was 27%, a number that was repeated starting in 2024. Absenteeism rates have remained stable and are at historic rates. Everything went very smoothly – said the Minister of Education.

Santana emphasized that while the absentee rate has remained stable, there has been some fluctuation in the historic series. — which decreased from 23 to 24, or 1%, effectively leaving it at 27% this year. We vary between 27% and 30%, he said. The Minister emphasized that even though the abstention rate remained at the same level, the total number of registrants increased and the actual number of participants increased.

The education minister said the exams were conducted without any serious complications and 3,240 participants were excluded for violating exam regulations.

–It was a wonderful enem. There were few complications. Palacios added that there were one or two electrical issues, as well as cancellations due to candidates ingesting something they shouldn’t or disagreeing with the applicator.

Santana also announced that official answer keys would be released on Thursday, Nov. 13, and that the test would be readministered on Dec. 16 and 17 for participants who faced logistical issues. The deadline for reapplication is November 17th to 21st.
