Considered a true skateboarding phenomenon, the sky seems to be the limit for Gouis Coury. This Sunday (09/11), he became champion at Pro Tour STU VERT with a score of 99.00, the highest score in the history of the sport, bettering his mark (98.00) achieved at this year’s Porto Alegre stage.
In fact, his high-flying performance in the Rio Grande do Sul state capital saw him match the feat of the X Games version of legendary Bob Burnquist. To give you an idea of the level of today’s final, which took place at Novo Anhangabau, one of the most traditional skating spots in Brazil, deputy Luigi Cini scored the same 98.00 points and came very close to the title at the end of four laps. In third place was Ronnie Gomez, who was active as a VERT specialist several years ago, with a score of 92.00, also from “9 Gang”.
What’s interesting is that champion Gouis Coury appeared to be warming up his skateboard turbine. On the first drop, he had already received a score of 94.33 from the judges. By the second time, it had already risen to 97.30. In the end, he surpassed himself with such intense and insane maneuvers that he himself reported, excited the crowd that filled the stands, and reached a score of 99.00, breaking his own vertical world record.
“To make matters worse, today was very difficult. I had to overcome myself a lot. In the first run, I already had a score of 94. In the second run, I added yet another maneuver and got a 97. In the third run, I added a ‘flip melon from the front’ and a ‘flip indy 36’. One of them was a very difficult maneuver and the other was even more.” flow.
