RUF (University Ranking) sheet) is an annual assessment of higher education in Brazil. sheet Since 2012.
RUF has two main products: university rankings and course rankings.
Brazil’s 204 public and private universities are categorized in university rankings based on five indicators: research, internationalization, innovation, teaching, and market.
In the course rankings you can find the ratings for each of the 40 most enrolled undergraduate courses in Brazil. Each classification takes into account courses offered by universities, university centers and colleges. In particular, law courses have a special assessment that also takes into account recognition at the OAB.
The data that makes up the RUF metrics is collected by the following teams: sheet national and international databases of scientific journals and patents, the Inep-MEC (Higher Education Census and Enade) database, state and federal science promotion agencies, and national opinion polls conducted by Datafolha.
Although the RUF team can clarify methodological questions regarding various rankings, it does not provide information on the selection process, admissions, school calendar, monthly fees, etc. of higher education institutions in the country.
Frequently asked questions about RUF
Why was my course (Biotechnology, Animal Husbandry Technology, etc.) not evaluated?
According to the latest Higher Education Census data, RUF rates the 40 professions with the highest enrollments in the country, including public administration, law and medicine. The demand for these careers can change from year to year.
My course did not receive a score on the “Market Rating” metric. Why does this happen?
For labor market indicators, Datafolha interviews consulted human resources professionals (companies, hospitals, clinics, schools, etc.). These professionals are interviewed by the three best institutions in their field of employment. Courses without a score on this indicator were not mentioned in interviews with employers in the last three surveys conducted by Datafolha.
Why wasn’t my university ranked in university rankings?
The RUF University Ranking evaluates and classifies higher education institutions that are accredited as ‘universities’ by the MEC. The 40-course ranking takes into account careers offered by universities, colleges, university centers, and federal agencies. Technical and distance learning courses are not part of the assessment.
Enade is worth up to 5 points, while in the RUF University Rankings it is worth 4 points. How is this possible?
University rankings calculate a university’s Enade score (up to 5 points) in proportion to the value of the RUF index (up to 4 points).
My institution did not provide data directly to RUF. How were we rated?
All RUF data is collected in a public database. There are also two exclusive national polls conducted by Datafolha among employers and teachers across the country. Visits to educational institutions or in-person data collection at educational institutions are not part of the methodology.
My institution has two “management” courses on two different campuses. Do you know the grade of each course?
no. The only element of the RUF formula that is distinguishable by campus is the Enade score. For institutions where the same course is offered at multiple campuses or units, the career grade will be calculated based on the average of the course grades offered at each campus.
My course is called “Law”. I want to know if you were evaluated in the “right” career.
yes. The 40 careers assessed by RUF take into account a range of courses with different nomenclature.
