More than 1,000 family doctors and pediatricians who have extended their careers thanks to “enhanced active retirement” could retire on December 28th. If the government does not extend this measure, primary care will be devastated. In centers like … In Valenzuela (Cordoba) and Huellín (Málaga), up to 25 percent of doctors will disappear overnight. And there are no spare parts either. This extension is not privileged. This patch is required in the event of a structural failure. The lack of planning over the past 20 years has left a generational talent pool empty. Many veteran doctors continue their work out of dedication, not out of obligation. The Spanish Association of Primary Care Physicians supports this. If you are trained, let me continue. But the central government, which has little power over autonomous communities in this matter, is in control but claims the budget is complex. Lack of determination is the worst response. Public health cannot be maintained in uncertainty or oblivion.
