Gallardo had one of the worst super classics on the river/photobiles
Marcelo Gallardo could not be saved in this Super Clasico. The loss against Boca put River in a disadvantageous position to participate in the next Copa Libertadores, and a major crisis spread in the team’s football world. El Muñeco was furious with the players and even threatened to resign, so after interrupting the press conference he decided to quietly leave La Bombonera.
Due to the indifference and poor performance shown by the millionaire against Zenidze, his coach decided not to speak to the press, as he did after his fall against Gymnasia.
This is the worst moment the manager has experienced at River, and he cannot find a way back into the team beyond the support of the leadership who has renewed his contract for another year. To make matters worse, the surprising five-line approach didn’t work for him, so he had to go back to four lines in the complement.
South American style?
Even though they are in the play-off spot for the Libertadores, this loss puts a check on River, as if the Argentinos win today, Riestra will be out of that position. So if Bicho beats Belgrano and Malevo does the same as Independiente, Gallardo’s team will be fifth in the standings. Nuñez’s side lit a candle to prevent that from happening, as River would face the final battle against Velez without relying on his own strength.
On the other hand, if the regular phase ends with something other than the Libertadores, the only option left is to win the Clausura Tournament, but that seems complicated considering the team’s current situation so far.
Another option is that if they leave the Libertadores playoff zone, they should at least finish fourth in the standings for the year. Taking this into account, you should bet on one of the qualifiers to win the championship as spots become available.
This is the first time that River is at risk of not being able to play in the Libertadores match with the Gallardo cycle.
“This situation hurts us.”
Goalkeeper Franco Armani was the only player to speak about River, stressing the need to act quickly: “We have to keep our heads up. We can get out of this situation by working.” He also said: “We have to come together. Unity, friendship and work, there is no other choice. We don’t want to be in this situation.”
“We weren’t prepared for it.”
Lucas Martínez Quarta was self-critical, stressing that he “wasn’t up to the level of the game.” He added: “Marcelo (Gallardo) told us to take responsibility.”
