Health of the bulls in the Madrid region (more celebrations, more spectators)

Data collected by the American Association of Bullfighting Show Organizers (Anoet) shows that this progress has been driven above all by bullfighting and its popular festivals, which have their roots in bullfighting. Therefore, shredded cattle totaled 90 head, an increase of 2.27%. But the unchopped ones shine with a more significant increase: 8.74%. The promotion of this small-scale celebration invites optimism as it promotes the bullring. For popular festivals, the increase is 3.84%.

And it doesn’t look like a mirage. The Madrid region has seen uninterrupted growth since the end of the pandemic and is 17% above pre-pandemic levels. In addition to this, there was a 9% increase in municipalities that bailed out these programs. From Anoet, the upward trajectory of the cattle festival in the region is celebrated.

Let’s remember that Madrid reached their highest attendance in recent times this season at Las Ventas, with over 1 million spectators. 1,008,226 souls trembled in the Arena on Calle Alcalá. The “No Tickets” sign sold out after 18 afternoons, three more than last year.

In global numbers, this increase is close to 71,694 additional participants, and a total of 62 celebrations were held, including the festival in honor of Antonio Chenel “Antonyete” and the final of the Camino towards Las Ventas, three times more than in 2024. The average number of spectators per day is 16,261.

Another tidbit: The last Autumn Fair held at the Bull Cathedral had 19,428 subscribers, the highest number of subscribers in the past 15 years and an objective thermometer of the enthusiasm for bullfighting, a big bet in Plaza 1, a growing hotbed of youth. In this way, the falsehood of Ernest Urtasun’s false rumor that “the number of people going to see cows is decreasing rapidly” was debunked.
