Global stocks rose on Monday on optimism that the end of the historic U.S. government shutdown, which lasted a record 40 days, was near, while bond yields rose and the dollar recovered from last week’s losses.

On Sunday, Republican senators, President Donald Trump’s party and the Democratic opposition reached a tentative agreement to end the U.S. government shutdown, which allocates funds to the federal government through January, leaves public employees on furlough, slows the distribution of food aid and disrupted air transportation.
In Asia, major stock exchanges closed higher. The Nikkei Stock Average on the Tokyo Stock Exchange rose 1.26% to close at 50,911.76 points. In Hong Kong, the Hang Seng index rose 1.55%, while the Seoul Stock Exchange’s KOSPI index ended up 3.02%.
In China, the CSI300 blue chip index, which compiles the stocks of 300 major companies traded on the Shanghai and Shenzhen stock exchanges, reversed its initial losses and closed up 0.35%.
European stock markets also showed an upward trend. At around 8 a.m., the London Stock Exchange’s FTSE-100 index was up 1.02%, while the Paris Stock Exchange’s CAC-40 index was up 1.39%. On the Frankfurt Stock Exchange, the DAX index recorded a 1.76% increase.

In the US futures market, the S&P rose 0.95%, the Nasdaq rose 1.47%, and the Dow rose 0.42%.
U.S. Treasury yields rose slightly, with the benchmark 10-year Treasury yield rising more than 4 basis points to 4.1355%. The two-year bond yield rose about 3.8 basis points to 3.5949%.
In foreign exchange markets, the dollar has regained some of its losses from last week. According to Reuters, the US currency rose 0.42% against the yen to 154.09 yen. In commodity markets, oil prices rose, with Brent futures up 0.14% to USD 63.75 per barrel and US benchmark WTI crude oil rising 0.22% to USD 59.88.
