According to the Ministry of Social Security, the number of Brazilians who are out of work due to mental health issues is huge – around 500,000. Based on these numbers, the Profissão Reporter team, led by journalist Caco Barcelos, took to the streets to find stories about people whose lives had been changed by the pressure and overload of their professional environments. The program will be broadcast this Tuesday (11th).
Public school teachers are some of the professions most susceptible to burnout. A recent survey conducted by the São Paulo Teachers Union in collaboration with USP revealed that 85% of professionals report symptoms of anxiety and depression. Many reach burnout. Between January 2024 and February this year, more than 34,000 sick days were granted to teachers in the local authority network for reasons related to mental health.
