The Brazilian Industrial Research and Innovation Company (Embrapii) was born with a clear mission: to bring science and industry closer together and transform knowledge into innovative solutions. In its 12-year history, Embrapii has established itself as one of the key instruments for stimulating the technological competitiveness of Brazilian companies, contributing to the strengthening of production chains, the creation of qualified jobs and the development of a knowledge-based economy.
More than 2,400 companies have already received support from Embrapii in more than 3,500 research, development and innovation (RD&I) projects, with a total investment of R$ 6.8 billion, taking into account the revised figures by IPCA. This is a joint effort between research centers, production departments, government agencies and institutional partners, resulting in significant results in the creation of new products, processes and business models. This agile, non-bureaucratic operating model is essential for Brazilian industry to compete on a global scale and respond quickly to the technological challenges of the times.
Embrapii is a social organization (OS) and a private entity that has management contracts with four federal government ministries. Department of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services. the Ministry of Health; and the Ministry of Education. This model ensures project robustness, agility and transparency, and with a focus on results, allows institutions to act flexibly in line with public innovation policies. We also have a strong partnership with the Brazilian Micro and Small Enterprise Support Service (Sebrae), which allows us to expand access to innovation for micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSEs), and with the National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES), which allows us to create thematic programs in priority areas such as digital transformation, renewable energy and circular economy.

We live in a time of profound and rapid change. The pursuit of a low-carbon economy and cleaner production standards will redefine the role of business and innovation. Brazil deserves something that points to the future. We are focused on competitiveness, which is also one of social inclusion and sustainability.
In this context, the industry needs to be green, digital and inclusive. Embrapii acts as a true agent of change by supporting projects that focus on the potential of the Amazonian and bioeconomy production chains, reducing carbon emissions, increasing energy efficiency, developing sustainable materials and, above all, valuing Brazil’s biodiversity.
Sustainability is a unique opportunity for Brazil. Brazil’s industry’s contribution to building a national and global low-carbon economy puts Brazil in a better position in the world.
COP30, which opens today in Belém, Pará, represents a historic opportunity for the convergence of global environmental efforts and the technological advances needed to make them happen. Innovation is the link that turns goals into extremely positive results, and that’s exactly where Embrapii comes in. Through a network of 91 units and nine competence centers, the institution connects scientific research with industry demands and accelerates the development of technological solutions with significant economic and environmental impact.
This innovation ecosystem can also be understood as a vector of inclusion. Small and medium-sized enterprises have access to the same innovation opportunities as large companies, strengthening the country’s productive base and expanding the social reach of science. Democratizing access to this knowledge is essential for countries aiming for sustainable growth and reducing regional inequalities.
It should be mentioned that the projects supported by Embrapi are directly in line with the goals of New Industries Brazil (NIB), an industrial policy launched by the federal government that seeks to promote a new cycle of sustainable development, focusing on productivity, energy transition, digitalization and the reduction of regional inequalities. During the four years of the NIB, Embrapii will support approximately 2,000 projects in total, worth a total of R$1.8 billion. These projects are requested by companies of all sizes and from all sectors across the policy’s six key mandates.
Sustainability is not an obstacle to development, but a condition for persistence. Innovation is a way to produce more and better things while using fewer resources and respecting the planet’s limits. We believe that economic prosperity and environmental protection are complementary aspects of the same challenge: the challenges of the future.
COP30 will be an opportunity for Brazil to reaffirm its leading role in global climate change issues. Embrapii is a fundamental partner of companies and institutions that share the objective of building a greener, more technological and competitive economy. The challenges are great, but there is also a unique opportunity to make this country a reference point for sustainable innovation.
It is important that Embrapii remains steadfast in its mission to connect science, technology and industry, transforming Brazilian knowledge into solutions that improve people’s lives and guarantee a richer and more balanced future for all.
