Bruno Enrique will be sentenced this Monday (10/11) in the Grand Chamber of the Superior Court of Justice for Sports (STJD). Flamengo players are accused of being involved in a sports betting operation. The player’s defense asked for a time limit for the lawsuit, but this thesis was rejected by the court. Currently, the audience continues to vote on the dosimetry of the athlete’s declaration.

The player’s defense claimed that the prosecutor’s office took longer than allowed to bring charges against Bruno Henrique. According to Brazil’s Sports Justice Law, the deadline is 60 days from the start of the investigation.

This paper is based on the date of the manipulation episode in the match between Flamengo and Santos on November 1, 2023. However, in addition to this, the defense assesses that a deadline could be considered from the moment Conmebol informs the court of the charges, which is August 2, 2024.

Bruno Enrique was denounced by the STJD on August 1st of this year. On September 4, he was sentenced to a 12-game suspension and a R$60,000 fine by the STJD’s First Disciplinary Committee. However, he appealed the sentence and, despite being found guilty, managed to escape punishment.

remember the incident

  • Bruno Henrique, who already had two cards, committed a foul in the attacking half against Soteldo, who was playing for Santos. Referee Rafael Klein gave a yellow card. Afterwards, the player openly complained and was eventually sent off.
  • On August 1, 2025, the STJD Prosecutor’s Office accused Bruno Enrique and four others of results manipulation related to sports betting. According to the accusation, the Flamengo striker committed fouls arbitrarily in order to receive punishment and benefit bettors.
  • Bruno Enrique was included in Articles 243 (section 1) and 243-A of the Brazilian Sports Judiciary Code (see below).
  • Bruno Enrique was also indicted by the Federal Police in April, charged with sports fraud, which is punishable under Article 200 of the General Sports Law. That is, they have defrauded the results of sporting competitions or related events in some way, or they have been complicit in deception in some way.
  • In addition to the player, the whistleblower group also accused four other amateur players: the Flamengo player’s younger brother, Wander Nunez Pinto Junior, Claudiney Vitor Mosquete Bassan, Andril Salele Nascimento dos Reis, and Douglas Ribeiro Pina Barcelos (all friends of Wander).
  • Flamengo players will also be tried at the Federal and Territorial Court of Justice (TJDFT). Bruno and his brother Wandel, who was also the target of the PF operation last November, exchanged messages on August 29, during which Wandel asked his brother about his suspension from Brasileiron. The indictment was revealed exclusively by Metropol.
  • For PF, the exchange of messages shows that Bruno Henrique had given advance information to his brother about the yellow card he received against Santos.

Previously, Bruno Enrique was included in Articles 243 (section 1) and 243-A of the Brazilian Sports Justice Law. Check it out:

  • Rule 243: Deliberately committing acts harmful to the defending team. Article 1 If the violation was committed on the basis of the payment or promise of any benefit, there is a fine of between 100 and 100,000 reais, plus a suspension of 360 to 720 days and exclusion in case of relapse.
  • Article 243A: Acts contrary to sporting ethics with the purpose of influencing the outcome of a match, race or equivalent. Penalties: If a player practices, even if he is a substitute, coach, doctor or member of the technical committee, a fine of between R$100 and R$100,000 and a suspension of 6 to 12 matches, competitions or equivalent, or a suspension of between 180 and 360 days if practiced by another person, naturally subject to this provision. In case of repeat offense, the penalty will be lifted.

Still in the first instance, Bruno Enrique was acquitted under Article 243, but convicted under Article 243-A.
