Ukraine’s National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) announced on Monday that a senior official of a subsidiary of the public nuclear energy company Energoatom was arrested on suspicion of collecting fees of 10-15% over several months from private companies with which it had contracts.
As NABU sources stated to the media ukrainian pravdawithin the framework of the operation, until July a search was carried out of the properties of Herman Galushchenko, former Minister of Energy and currently Minister of Justice.
Deputy Yaroslav Zhelezniak of the Golos party, which has a majority loyal to President Volodymyr Zelenskiy on some votes but is not part of the government, also informed Galushchenko of the record.
On top of that, ukrainian pravda The report cites NABU officials who claim that searches were also carried out on the property of Timur Mindić, Zelensky’s former partner and co-owner of Kvartal 95, a production company founded by Zelensky before he became president. These same sources claim that Mr Mindić left the country last night, hours before the raid on his property took place.
According to NABU’s official statement regarding the operation against corruption allegations at the Energoatom subsidiary, the company’s detained general director is believed to have collected more than $40,000 in fees between June and November this year.
Operation NABU, in which the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAP) also participated, took place during Russia’s bombing campaign against Ukraine’s energy system and shortly after Volodymyr Kudrytsky, the head of state-run electricity company Ukrenergo until September last year, was also arrested on corruption charges.
