Altea Yacht Club became an international youth sailing hub last weekend when it hosted the final of the Youth Sailing Champions League 2025, which took place from November 7th to 9th. The tournament, now in its fifth year, attracted 24 teams. … U-23 teams from 12 countries: Germany, Austria, Denmark, Spain, USA, Finland, France, Latvia, Norway, Netherlands, Poland and Switzerland.
After a fierce battle for the title, the “North German Regatta Verein” (NRV) won the “Chub US Youth Triple Hand Championship (Sears Cup)” and was declared champion in two exciting final races against the San Francisco Yacht Club (SFYC), competing in this competition for the first time. “Segelclub Stäfa” (SUI) completed the podium in 3rd place, achieving a historic third podium in the Youth SCL.
On the Spanish side, the only representative was the hosting team from Club Nautico de Altea. The crew, made up of Alejandro Arroyo, Guillem Serrat, Alexis Turins, Marino Arroyo and Alonso Suárez, got off to a strong start and reached third place on the first day, but technical problems on the second day eventually relegated them to 11th.
The event offered three days of high intensity and technical demands, with young sailors having to adapt to CN Altea’s Platu 25 boats, an unusual class in Europe’s domestic leagues dominated by J/70s and RS21s. The situation tested the crew’s versatility, and the crew demonstrated a very high level of tactical and maneuverability.
The wind was the main character throughout the weekend. While Friday and Saturday had wind gusts of up to 22 knots, making for fast and spectacular racing, Sunday’s light winds required maximum precision and concentration.
