China lifts export ban on Nexperia chips

China has lifted the ban on exports of semiconductors made by Nexperia, as confirmed by German manufacturer Aumovio SE, a supplier of parts for the automotive industry. The decision marks an important development in the international dispute over a Chinese-owned Dutch semiconductor manufacturer.

he … Aumovio CEO Philipp von Hirschheidt explained that the company has resumed shipments of Nexperia chips and components after receiving export permits from Beijing authorities this week. China’s Ministry of Commerce officially lifted the restrictions on Friday.

The lifting of the measures is in line with moves by the Dutch government, which, according to Bloomberg, intends to end its intervention in NExperia after taking over control of the company last month.

Aumovio, which was recently spun off from the Continental AG Group, makes sensors, brakes and autonomous driving systems and has more than a dozen factories in China. Customers include manufacturers such as BMW, Volkswagen, and Stellantis.

The company transports the chips from China to Hungary, which then distributes them to its production network in Europe. However, von Hirschheid warned that the disruption could continue for the next four to six weeks, saying “it will still take some time for all procedures to return to normal.” However, if the situation remains stable, “we do not anticipate any impact on business operations.”
