The Thailand demanded a formal apology from Cambodiaafter blaming the neighboring country for setting up a new one. landmine A Thai soldier was injured at the border, a representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced today. The episode comes a day after Bangkok suspended a cease-fire agreement brokered by the US president. donald trump.

Cambodia deny It has planted new landmines, including one that exploded on Monday and seriously injured a Thai soldier on patrol on the disputed border between the two countries. Tensions reignite after five days of conflict in July.

The fighting ended after President Trump called the leaders of Thailand and Cambodia. He also chaired the ceasefire agreement in Malaysia last month.

At least 48 people were killed in the clashes and around 300,000 people were temporarily displaced. The clashes included rocket fire, heavy artillery shelling and air strikes.

“We are requesting an apology from the Cambodian side,” said Nikondeji Barankula, a spokesperson for Thailand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. “We ask that you clarify the facts of what happened, who is responsible, and take measures to prevent a situation like this from happening again in the future.”

A Cambodian government spokesperson declined to comment on Thailand’s request.

On Tuesday, Cambodia’s Ministry of Defense denied laying any new mines and said it was committed to working with Bangkok under the agreement.

Landmine explosions in the disputed border area were also a factor in the clashes, with at least seven Thai soldiers seriously injured in landmine-related incidents.

Some of them may have been posted recently, based on expert analysis of materials shared by the Thai military.

The Southeast Asian neighbors have been in dispute for more than a century over the sovereignty of the undemarcated point along their 817-kilometre land border, first mapped by France in 1907 when it was colonizing Cambodia.
